Eric Saubert
Eric Saubert Solid in backup role
Fri, Jan 17, 2025, 2:31 PM
Saubert recorded 11 receptions for 97 yards and a touchdown across 17 games this season.
Analysis: The veteran tight end was brought in to serve as a reliable backup to superstar tight end George Kittle in 2024. Saubert filled that role well, providing his usual strong blocking and sure hands while making two spot-starts for San Francisco. The 31-year-old is set to become an unrestricted free agent after completing his one-year deal with the 49ers.
Chris Conley
Chris Conley Reserve role in 2024
Fri, Jan 17, 2025, 2:12 PM
Conley (elbow) appeared in 15 games for the 49ers this season, finishing with six receptions on 12 targets for 76 yards.
Analysis: Conley finished his second year in San Francisco with similar minimal results from a fantasy perspective. The veteran wideout injured his elbow in the team's final game of the regular season, but the severity of the injury wasn't disclosed. At age 32, Conley is set to become an unrestricted free agent this upcoming offseason.
Jacob Cowing
Jacob Cowing Mainly used on ST in rookie year
Fri, Jan 17, 2025, 1:59 PM
Cowing finished his rookie season with four receptions for 80 yards and one rushing attempt for seven yards across 15 active games.
Analysis: Cowing was primarily used on special teams in 2024, producing 277 return yards. The Arizona product flashed some big-play ability as a receiver, averaging 20.0 yards per reception in limited action. Cowing could see more work as a sophomore in 2025, but it would likely take an injury or two in order to open up enough playing time to warrant fantasy consideration next year.
Kyle Juszczyk
Kyle Juszczyk Scores thrice in 2024
Fri, Jan 17, 2025, 1:35 PM
Juszczyk produced 26 rushing yards and a touchdown on five carries to go along with 19 receptions for 200 yards and a pair of scores while starting all 17 games for San Francisco this season.
Analysis: Juszczyk turned in another strong season from the near-extinct fullback position, providing the 49ers with elite blocking in addition to his services as an auxiliary receiving option. The 33-year-old will enter the second year of his restructured contract in 2025, presumably serving in a similar role, which provides great real-life value to his club despite holding little fantasy utility.
Brandon Allen
Brandon Allen Starts one game in 2024
Fri, Jan 17, 2025, 1:21 PM
Allen completed 17 of 30 pass attempts for 199 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions across three games with the 49ers in 2024.
Analysis: Allen finally made his on-field debut with San Francisco after spending much of his three-year tenure as a member on the practice squad. The veteran backup earned a start in Week 12 in place of then-injured starter Brock Purdy, but mixed results led to fellow backup Joshua Dobbs starting the team's final regular season contest. The 31-year-old Allen will become an unrestricted free agent this upcoming offseason, and he'll likely provide depth for San Francisco or another club if signed ahead of the 2025 campaign.
Isaiah Hodgins
Isaiah Hodgins Joins SF on reserve/future deal
Tue, Jan 7, 2025, 6:20 PM
San Francisco signed Hodgins to a reserve/future contract Tuesday.
Analysis: Hodgins was a sixth-round draft selection by the Bills in 2020. He had a mild breakthrough after joining the Giants midway through the 2022 campaign, recording 33 catches for 351 yards and four touchdowns over eight games. However, Hodgins had since fallen out of favor in New York and spent much of 2024 on the team's practice squad. The 49ers have signed two other veteran wideouts -- Trent Taylor and Russell Gage -- to reserve/future deals following the conclusion of the regular season, and the trio will be given the opportunity to compete for roster spots during training camp next summer.
Russell Gage
Russell Gage Remaining with SF
Tue, Jan 7, 2025, 6:11 PM
The 49ers signed Gage to a reserve/future deal Tuesday.
Analysis: Gage is an NFL veteran who spent the first four years of his career with the Falcons. The 28-year-old hasn't logged a snap in an NFL game since 2022 when he was with Tampa Bay -- during that campaign, he was fairly productive with a career-high five touchdown catches while recording 51 receptions for 426 yards over 13 regular-season contests. Gage latched on with San Francisco's practice squad this November and will now have a chance to compete for a roster spot during training camp this summer.
Isaac Guerendo
Isaac Guerendo Has MCL, ankle sprains
Mon, Jan 6, 2025, 7:10 PM
Guerendo has been diagnosed with MCL and ankle sprains in his left leg following an MRI on Monday, but he didn't damage the ACL in his left knee during Sunday's loss at Arizona, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: The 49ers' 2024 campaign is over, but the team's season finale included yet another RB injury. On only his second carry of Sunday's game, Guerendo had his left leg twisted under him as he was tackled, and he needed a cart to go to the locker room. He thus is one of four San Francisco running backs to enter the offseason focusing on rehab. The others are Christian McCaffrey (knee), Jordan Mason (ankle) and Elijah Mitchell (hamstring). Guerendo, a 2024 fourth-round pick, proved to be effective when given the chance as a rookie, turning 84 carries into 420 yards (5.0 YPC) and four touchdowns and hauling in 15 of 16 targets for 152 yards in 16 appearances.
Trent Taylor
Trent Taylor Inks reserve/future deal with SF
Mon, Jan 6, 2025, 6:37 PM
Taylor signed a reserve/future contract with San Francisco on Monday.
Analysis: Taylor is very familiar with the 49ers after being selected by the organization in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft. He spent the first three years of his career with San Francisco before logging two seasons with Cincinnati and one with Chicago, and he rejoined the 49ers on a one-year contract last April. Taylor ended up spending most of the 2024 campaign on the team's practice squad but did get elevated for two contests, recording one catch for 11 yards over 14 offensive snaps. He'll continue to serve as organizational receiver depth through the offseason and will get a chance to compete for a roster spot during training camp next summer.
Christian McCaffrey
Christian McCaffrey Feels close to fully health
Mon, Jan 6, 2025, 3:00 PM
McCaffrey (knee) said Monday he's "definitely close" to 100 percent healthy and could have played had the 49ers qualified for the playoffs, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: McCaffrey will turn his full attention toward making a recovery for OTAs, with San Francisco having failed to attain a playoff berth. The star running back missed the final five games of the regular season due to a PCL injury in his right knee, after having had his 2024 debut delayed until Week 10 due to a calf strain and bilateral Achilles tendinitis. Ensuring McCaffrey is able to enter the 2025 campaign at full health will be among the 49ers' top offseason priorities, in addition to a potential contract extension for quarterback Brock Purdy (elbow).
Patrick Taylor
Patrick Taylor Cracks century mark Sunday
Mon, Jan 6, 2025, 1:24 PM
Taylor rushed 17 times for 109 yards while catching one of four targets for 12 receiving yards in Sunday's 47-24 loss to Arizona.
Analysis: Rookie starter Isaac Guerendo (knee) went down on his second carry Sunday, opening the door for Taylor to post the first 100-plus yard game of his career. The 26-year-old finished the regular season with a 39-183-1 rushing line, with most of that production coming in the blowout loss to the Cardinals. The veteran backup will now become an unrestricted free agent this upcoming offseason after playing out his one-year deal with San Francisco.
Jauan Jennings
Jauan Jennings Leads team with 10 targets
Mon, Jan 6, 2025, 1:18 PM
Jennings finished with seven receptions on 10 targets for 52 yards in Sunday's 47-24 loss to Arizona. He was ejected in the second quarter for fighting with a Cardinals player.
Analysis: Jennings took over as the 49ers' No. 1 option due to Deebo Samuel (ribs/wrist) sitting out Sunday's regular-season finale. The 26-year-old Jennings had a career year in 2024, setting new highs in receptions (77), yards (975) and touchdowns (six) while primarily filling in for Brandon Aiyuk (knee) midseason, though his combativeness may have cost him his first 1,000-yard season after getting ejected with a half-plus left to play. The upstart receiver will now enter the second year of a two-year contract reconstruction, with the possibility of continuing his elevated role for the 49ers in 2025.
George Kittle
George Kittle Mild output to finish strong season
Sun, Jan 5, 2025, 10:49 PM
Kittle brought in two of three targets for 27 yards in Sunday's 47-24 loss to the Cardinals.
Analysis: Kittle took a backseat to several teammates in a meaningless game to close out a disappointing year for San Francisco. The superstar tight end has little blame to place on himself after churning out another All-Pro worthy season for fantasy managers. He ranked third amongst tight ends in receiving yards (1,106) while finishing second in touchdowns (8). The YAC monster also posted a healthy 14.2 average reception distance in an overall stellar campaign. Kittle will be entering the fifth and final year of his current contract as the 49ers look to bounce back from a 6-11 record in 2025.
Ricky Pearsall
Ricky Pearsall Stays hot with another score
Sun, Jan 5, 2025, 10:33 PM
Pearsall corralled six of eight targets for 69 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 47-24 loss to the Cardinals.
Analysis: Pearsall was the 49ers' leading receiver while scoring his second touchdown in as many games. The rookie saw most of his season production come in those two games after injuries and limited usage kept him out of the fantasy picture for most of the season. With Brandon Aiyuk (knee) recovering from knee surgery and Deebo Samuel set to hit the open market as a free agent, Pearsall's strong close to the season should have his fantasy stock pointing up as we look ahead to the 2025 campaign.
Joshua Dobbs
Joshua Dobbs Fills box score in losing effort
Sun, Jan 5, 2025, 10:23 PM
Dobbs completed 29 of 43 pass attempts for 326 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions while rushing eight times for 17 yards and a third score while coughing up a fumble in Sunday's 47-24 loss to Arizona.
Analysis: Dobbs showed mixed results in his first official start with San Francisco after finishing last week's contest in place of Brock Purdy (elbow). The Passtronaut took DFS players on a wild ride that resulted in gaudy fantasy totals despite committing three turnovers against Arizona. The journeyman backup likely cemented a similar role next season, whether he returns to the 49ers or latches on to another club.
Isaac Guerendo
Isaac Guerendo MCL sprain likely, tests upcoming
Sun, Jan 5, 2025, 8:39 PM
Coach Kyle Shanahan said after Sunday's 47-24 loss to the Cardinals that Guerendo (knee/ankle) likely suffered an MCL sprain and will undergo further testing Monday, Lindsey Pallares of the 49ers' official site reports.
Analysis: Guerendo suffered knee and ankle injuries, with the knee injury likely to be an MCL sprain. The results of Monday's tests should help provide clarity on the recovery timeline for Guerendo. The 49ers' season came to a close with Sunday's defeat in the regular-season finale.
Chris Conley
Chris Conley Questionable to return Sunday
Sun, Jan 5, 2025, 5:55 PM
Conley (elbow) is questionable to return to Sunday's contest against the Cardinals, Jennifer Lee Chan of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Analysis: Conley suffered the elbow injury in the second half and his return is now up in the air. The wide receiver caught both of his targets for 30 yards before departing Sunday. In his absence, Trent Taylor is a candidate to see an increase in workload with San Francisco's offense.
Isaac Guerendo
Isaac Guerendo Won't return Sunday
Sun, Jan 5, 2025, 3:42 PM
Guerendo won't return to Sunday's game at Arizona due to knee and ankle injuries.
Analysis: Guerendo had his left leg twisted under him on his second carry of the game, and his teammates quickly motioned to the sideline for assistance. He eventually was carted off the field and ruled out not long after. With Guerendo unavailable, the 49ers will entrust the run game in Patrick Taylor and FB Kyle Juszczyk for the rest of their season finale.
Israel Abanikanda
Israel Abanikanda Not suiting up in season finale
Sun, Jan 5, 2025, 2:15 PM
Abanikanda (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's Week 18 matchup versus Arizona, Lindsey Pallares of the 49ers' official site reports.
Analysis: Abanikanda will end the campaign in a familiar position, as he's been a healthy inactive on gameday throughout the season. The second-year running back didn't see any NFL action this year after getting into six games for the Jets in 2023. Abanikanda was claimed off waivers by San Francisco in early December but didn't get any looks despite the team's running-back room being decimated by injuries.
George Kittle
George Kittle Suiting up in Week 18
Sun, Jan 5, 2025, 1:58 PM
Kittle (ankle/hamstring) is listed as active Sunday in Arizona, Lindsey Pallares of the 49ers' official site reports.
Analysis: Kittle has been a regular on 49ers practice reports this season, with ankle and hamstring injuries capping him to a pair of limited sessions during Week 18 prep. He'll avoid missing his third game of the season Sunday, but he won't be working with No. 1 QB Brock Purdy (elbow). Instead, Joshua Dobbs will be under center, while Kittle will be taking on a Cardinals defense that allowed him to go for 8-64-1 on 12 targets back in Week 5.
